We love Maths in Esker Educate Together! In Infants, we do Maths Activities every morning. It is so much fun to arrive in school and get to play games straight away. And these are very special games...because they help us to learn! Watch our 'Maths in Infants' slideshow and see for yourselves:
In First and Second Class, we are really lucky because we get to take part in Maths for Fun. Our parents come to help us with lots of Maths games. We are even given special packs full of all the necessary resources so that we can play these games at home! Learning is fun and playing these games can help us with those really tricky concepts that come up at this level, like tens and units and renaming! Have a look at our 'Maths in First and Second Class' slideshow!
In 3rd and 4th Class, we love to play number games with our friends. We also like using Maths in a practical way in our school environment. Here are some photos of the wonderful work we have done in 3rd and 4th Class this year.
In 5th class we like to use our mathematical skills to solve problems and work on exciting projects. We are really starting to see how Maths prepares us for our future lives, like when we had to plan a holiday for four on a budget! Check out our giant too, who we were able to create having been given only the measurements of his hand.
In 6th Class we love Maths! We have done some really interesting projects this year. In January, we had to solve the puzzle behind the Mystery Giant! All we had to help us to solve the case was a hand print that he had left in Deirdre's quiche. We used an Excel Spreadsheet to combine the information needed. This made solving the puzzle a lot easier and more efficient. Once we had everyone's hand:body part ratios inputted the calculations were done for us! Then we had to measure out each of his body parts and stick them altogether. He was gigantic! It's still a mystery how he fit through Deirdre's front door.
For Maths Week this year, parents came into our classrooms to help us out.
Lots of classes participated in Maths Trails too.
Lots of our Maths Week work was documented on our school website, like you can see on Katie's class' post below.
